Abraham Maslow is a Jewish immigrant from Kiev. Born and raised in the USA. Actually, he is one of the first families who immigrate the US from Russian Empire.
He felt the racism a lot in 90’s America. Even they throw a rock to him. What a humble guy. He overcame everything and write a lot of articles about his hierarchy.
It’s a pyramid. From bottom to top;
Physiological needs are the physical requirements for a human to survive. Without these needs, the human body will fail and not achieve the rest of them.
First of all breathing. Maybe it seems so cliche but he’s right about this part without breathing nothing will happen.
Water; Everyone of us needs water. 4/3 our bodies made from water.
Food, a decent sleep, clothing and shelter. Basic needs of human nature. It’s hard to maintain all of them at the same time these days.
Once a person’s physiological needs are relatively satisfied, their safety needs take precedence and dominate behaviour.
What kind of safety? Literally every kind of. Our families safety, economical safety, physical and mental safety are included. We need to be safe to think straight. From childhood to adult. When we’re kids our families have a big role in our safeties. They protected us from every kind of situation. Provide us safety environment. Good education to job guarantee life. Well, the family is a really big part of our safety progress. Without safety, I guess we’ll be just lost and not be able to climb the rest of the list to the top.
After the first two of the needs fulfilled, the third level of human needs are seen to be interpersonal and involves feelings of belongingness. Again, the environment. Our families have to teach us to be confident and love ourselves. Without them, we just can’t be emotionally significant relationships in general. Social belongings have three important titles.
Friendships, which teach us there is more person except our families to trust.
Intimacy; Always be honest. You only live once. Never disappoint yourself about you. Be straight from the bottom of your heart.
Family, again. The family has the biggest job to make a person who lives like a normal person.
We need a social status or ego. People develop a concern with recognition and respect from others. This includes self-esteem. People with low self-esteem often need respect from others; they may feel the need to seek fame or glory. However, fame or glory will not help the person to build their self-esteem until they accept who they are internal. Otherwise, depression can take over our body.
“What a man can be, he must be.” This quotation forms the basis of the perceived need for self-actualization. This level of need refers to what a person’s full potential is and the realization of that potential. Maslow describes this level as the desire to accomplish everything that one can, to become the most that one can be. Individuals may perceive or focus on this need very specifically. For example, one individual may have the strong desire to become an ideal parent. In another, the desire may be expressed athletically. For others, it may be expressed in paintings, pictures, or inventions. As previously mentioned, Maslow believed that to understand this level of need, the person must not only achieve the previous needs but master them.
Maslow studied what he called the master race of people such as Albert Einstein,
Jane Addams, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Frederick Douglass rather than mentally ill or neurotic people writing that “the study of crippled, stunted, immature, and unhealthy specimens can yield only a cripple psychology and a cripple philosophy.” Maslow studied the healtiest 1% of the college student population. This made me think that this study doesn’t describe human nature at all. I think in these pyramid things sometimes changes for my self. You want what you not had.
The hardest part of this article, there is no statistic can prove this hierarchy. Every human has his own thoughts and wills. These seem for normal people. But none of us is really normal ain’t us? The thing is which we called the master race people, the sickest persons for me. Mentally ill.
After all the idea behind this pyramid, which we can consider true. Our whole life is a basic need. Because the human brain doesn’t care some stupid pyramid. Makes his own pyramid for every situation. Maslow made his own pyramid.
With this article, I have a fence. Maslow was described his self in this article.
He was the person who has mental problems. Sorry for you Maslow.
